Michael Joseph Chandler is charged with sexually assaulting an underage girl and taking sexual photos of several other children. He would have gotten away with it if someone had not found his phone in a parking lot in south Louisville, Kentucky. Officials have expressed their horror at his crimes and their gratitude toward the person who turned in the phone and prevented Chandler from continuing his crimes. He had no record of prior serious crimes.
Michael Chandler is 56-years-old and filmed himself sodomizing a girl who was under the age of 16. WDRB reported that Attorney General Andy Beshear stated that Chandler’s phone also contained numerous sexual photos of other children. He expressed his horror and gratitude.
“It is incredibly disturbing, and I’m glad that this individual is off the street. This is an arrest that would not have occurred unless somebody else made a report, so it is incredibly fortunate for anyone else out there that could have been harmed.”
A South Carolina mother of three is being hailed as a hero for shooting a home invader, saying she would have killed him if she had to.
As WHNS-TV (Greenville) reports, Ashley Jones says she was just minding her business at her Anderson County home last Thursday morning when, at about 6:00 a.m., she heard someone banging on her front door. She looked out of an upstairs window and didn’t see anyone, but she said she could hear people speaking. She called 911 and grabbed her gun.
When she got downstairs, she looked out the front window and said she saw a man she didn’t know banging on the front door.
“I yelled, ‘I have a gun, I will shoot you, get away from my house!'”
Angelina Jolie has adopted several kids over the years and now there are rumors that she plans to add to her brood. A tabloid is reporting that Jolie plans to adopt a Syrian boy in the near future, continuing her tendency to adopt children from far-flung parts of the world. But celebrity rumor watchdog Gossip Cop is on the case and they claim that the story is nothing but fake news.
According to Gossip Cop, OK! Magazine has reported that Jolie plans to adopt the Syrian child after the custody negotiations between her and her estranged husband Brad Pitt are complete.
“This didn’t just come out of the blue — this is something Angie has wanted and believed in for a long time,” their alleged insider said.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) intends to move forward with plans to conduct research on dogs – research that will result in the animals’ deaths – despite intense opposition, USA Today is reporting.
In VA research facilities in three cities – Milwaukee, Cleveland, and Richmond – scientists plan to conduct a series of tests that they hope will help veterans with spinal cord or breathing problems. The tests, however, are gruesome to describe (more on that in a few paragraphs), and will all result in the animals being euthanized once the testing is completed.
The experiments had been going on for months before the public became aware of them, according to a September 2017 USA Today report. After an internal report revealed that the animals were dying in the course of the research, the VA promised to “tighten oversight” at the facilities where the experiments were being conducted.
Specifically, the new regulations required VA veterinarians to get approval before conducting any research on animals.
On October 26, the New York Times published a story featuring a photo of 7-year-old Amal Hussain that captured the attention and sympathy of readers. The Yemeni girl was skin and bones as she lay on a hospital bed dying from starvation as a result of a war in her country that’s being led by Saudi Arabia. Thousands live on the brink of starvation not because food is scarce but because its cost is far beyond their means. Thursday, Amal Hussain died at a refugee camp located just four miles from a hospital.
A Scottish man is without two very important parts of his body – you can guess which ones – after he smeared peanut butter on them only to have them bitten off by his English bulldog, Biggie.
As News Corp Australia reports, the circumstances that led up to the unidentified 22-year-old man losing his genitals to his pet remain rather hazy. But here’s what is known: early in the morning of October 7, neighbors heard the sound of a “loud party” coming from the address in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland.
At about 4:00 a.m., neighbors heard loud barking coming from the house. Four hours later, they heard the dog barking again. Then at about 2:30 p.m., reports the Mirror, police were called to the address, although it remains unclear why.
Student loan debt has become an increasingly hot topic of conversation in political circles, and for good reason. Currently, a million debtors default on their student loans every year. According to recent studies by the Urban Institute and Brookings Institute, that number is likely to spike to over 40 percent of all borrowers by 2023, as reported in the West Central Tribune.
Once a borrower fails to pay on their student loan for nine months, the loan goes into default. The Urban Institute says that only mortgages outrank student loan debt as the largest debt category in the U.S., and the average borrower takes 19.4 years to pay off a student loan.
“We’re still dealing with the fallout from the financial crisis (of 2009),” said David Flynn, an economics professor at the University of North Dakota.
“Income has remained stagnant. Not all incomes have recovered since the crisis.”
As the midterm elections inch ever closer, it would appear that some partisans are having some difficulty in maintaining their belief in the political axiom that states “cooler heads prevail.”
One such political operative — Shelby Shoup, an intern with Andrew Gillum’s campaign — recently lost her cool, as Fox News details. During a videotaped exchange that took place on campus at Florida State University, Shoup can be seen becoming increasingly agitated by the presence of several members belonging to the local College Republicans branch.
“You’re supporting nazi’s, do you understand that?” Shoup levies accusations at the Republican activists. “And you’re supporting communism?” one right-leaning respondent replies.
“Yeah, I f****** am,” Shoup responds — to which her counterparts retort, “They’ve [communists] killed way more people, dude.”
When another College Republican tells Shoup not to throw her coffee on him, she immediately responds by doing so, emptying most of the bottle on him, and defiantly declaring, “F*** you, I will!”
Two children were shot in the Olney section of Philadelphia on Halloween night while trick-or-treating. Police are still searching for the shooters, who they believe were wearing masks at the time of the crime. The victims were a 14-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother. The boy was shot once in his left leg, and a bullet grazed the right leg of his sister. Both were treated at a local hospital. The girl was put in a cast and released while her brother remains hospitalized at St. Christopher’s Hospital in stable condition. Police have no description of the car in which the two gunmen were riding and have not recovered a weapon. They are hoping to find surveillance video that will help them in their investigation.
Simona Mangiante, the wife of foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, has been reported to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by her husband’s family. The Observer reports that an unidentified member of Papadopoulos’ family has confirmed what Mangiante has claimed, that “they are all making their best to get me ‘deported.'” Her relationship with the Kremlin has been a topic of much speculation in recent months, and Papadopoulos’ family has their own issues with her.
Mangiante has stood by her husband throughout accusations of involvement in alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. He even landed in prison for 14 days after being found guilty of lying to investigators working for special counsel Robert Mueller. Suspicion about Mangiante’s connections to and relationship with Russia arose when it was discovered that the relationship between her and her husband began as a result of their common friend – Professor Joseph Misfud.
In what Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes is calling a way to build “hysteria” prior to mid-term elections, social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, have banned both McInnes and his group, citing violations of their hate group policies. The group’s founder attacked the move by calling it a desperate move by liberals who know they won’t come out on the winning side in next week’s elections.
ABC News reports that although the Southern Poverty Law Center has deemed the Proud Boys a hate group, McInnes has denied the charge. The group is self-described as a group of “Western chauvinists who refuse to apologize for creating the modern world.” A spokeswoman for Facebook issued a statement on their decision to ban the Proud Boys.
Royal watchers in the United States would go gaga over having Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and their baby move to the U.S. and ditch the royal family. People around the world love watching every move that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex make, especially Americans, and some tabloid reports hinted that the royal family might decide to relocate to California so they can raise their child there. However, it looks like this one was quickly debunked.
OK! Magazine said that according to an inside source, Prince Harry is determined to put his bride and baby first. As a result, there have supposedly been discussions between Harry and Meghan Markle about whether to stay in London.
The source claims that Meghan and Harry have been having some doubts about living at the palace since they learned they were expecting their first child. In addition, supposedly, the duke’s priorities have shifted away from having the royal family and related duties as his top priority.
Following the brutal murder of Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi, which left the whole world shocked, the street outside the Saudi Arabian embassy in London has been unofficially renamed “Khashoggi Street.”
The street was renamed by the international humanitarian organization Amnesty International to mark a month since Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. Khashoggi — who frequently criticized the kingdom’s leader, Prince Mohamed bin Salman, in his columns — went to the Saudi consulate on October 2 to get the paperwork required to marry his Turkish fiancee.
According to a report by Amnesty International, a mock sign was erected near the Saudi embassy’s gate “exactly one month after CCTV cameras last recorded the journalist entering the consulate building in Istanbul.”
On Sunday, people in the United States, with the exception of those in Hawaii and Arizona, will move their clocks back an hour at 2 a.m., effectively ending daylight saving time. The action cuts down on the dark morning hour’s duration, but you can plan on an earlier nightfall. Additionally, most Americans believe they are going to get an extra hour of sleep. But will they really?
According to Harvard Health Publishing, studies indicate that the answer is no, and moving the clock backward is only equal to a gain in sleep for a handful of people. After the time shift, the majority of us will wake earlier, have problems falling asleep and are more likely to wake up. Additionally, people that get up early, and those that sleep less than 7.5 hours a night will feel the time shift more than others.
Sixty-four-year-old Marston Riley teaches music in a Los Angeles area high school. He was arrested on Friday afternoon on suspicion of child abuse and causing great bodily harm on a child, according to NBC News. The charges stem from videos that show Riley striking a student in the classroom.
Videos of the altercation are from the cellphones of other students who were in the classroom during the incident. They show the student confronting Riley after the student said that the teacher spoke badly of him. Other students who were in the room said that Riley called out the student for not being dressed in the appropriate school uniform. When the student refused to comply with Riley’s request that he leave the classroom, the 14-year-old student became verbally abusive in the videos, cursing at the teacher, calling him racist names, and challenging him.
School bus tragedies across the U.S. claiming the lives of five children and injuring seven others has placed an overwhelming spotlight on school bus stop safety, pedestrian safety, and distracted driving.
According to a report by CNN parents often worry about placing their children’s in the hands of a school bus driver, but it is walking to the bus stop and standing at the bus stop that are – statistically – more dangerous.
This past week traffic accidents involving children in Indiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Pennsylvania have parents, bus drivers, and entire communities up in arms about bus stop safety.
According to the Chicago Tribune, bus drivers across Indiana experienced a multitude of emotions after a tragedy claimed the live of three siblings. Nancy Perez, who drives a school bus for Lake Central School Corp. in Indiana, explained to the Chicago Tribune why bus drivers in these situations should also be viewed as victims.
South Carolina’s lowcountry was hit by two 2.2-magnitude earthquakes on Friday, causing no damage.
According to the Greenville News, the epicenters of both earthquakes were detected around Summerville, which is located about three hours from Greenville and about 30 minutes from Charleston.
Per the details provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) report, the first earthquake struck around 8:06 a.m. on Friday with a depth of 5.9 kilometers. The epicenter of the first quake was about 2.6 miles southwest of Summerville.
The second earthquake was detected around 10:42 a.m. the same day, with a depth of 4.4 kilometers. Per the USGS report, the epicenter of the second tremor was about one mile northeast of Summerville, the Greenville News report said.
Cockroaches are a pest that are known to be insanely hard to kill. Yet when it comes to their relationship with the emerald jewel wasp, one cannot help but have a twinge of sympathy for them. The emerald jewel wasp will dive onto the back of an unsuspecting cockroach and inject it with a venom that makes the roach a docile slave to the wasp. The jewel wasp then lays her eggs inside the still-living cockroach so that her babies will have something to eat when they hatch.
The mindless cockroach then becomes the walking dead, just waiting to be devoured from the inside out. As it turns out, however, the cockroach isn’t completely defenseless in its perpetual war against the jewel wasp. According to Ars Technica, cockroaches are capable of using their long, hard legs to deliver wide, sweeping, karate-style kicks to ward off their attackers.
The more that is learned about Tallahassee yoga studio shooter Scott Beierle, the more the public becomes acquainted with his profile as a racist and misogynist with a criminal past.
As Buzzfeed‘s reporting on his background reveals, Beierle compiled a rapsheet that has him on record as a serial groper, and he left recordings behind that serve as a testament to the intolerance and hate he internalized toward women and people of color up until the day of his murder-suicide at age 40.
Fifteen-year-old Gregory Logan Ramos has been charged with strangling his mother, 46-year-old Gail Cleavenger, to death in the early morning hours Friday. The two had argued about a D he received at school, and Ramos allegedly attacked his mother when she called his father, who was away on a business trip. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood has called Ramos one of the “top three sociopaths” he has ever met. He described the teenager as a “soulless individual.”
On Friday afternoon, Ramos called 911 and told the dispatcher that he had come home and found it burglarized. ClickOrlando reported that he said his mother was gone and her van was sitting in the driveway running. Ramos would later describe his “performance” during that phone call as “award-winning.” Police were suspicious as soon as they arrived at the home. They described some scratches on Ramos’ face as consistent with wounds incurred in self-defense, and the scene itself felt suspicious.
