President Trump Returns To The White House

Just around the time that Donald Trump fired James Comey from his position as head of the FBI, the talk comparing Donald Trump’s administration to that of Richard Nixon picked up. Since that time, after Robert Mueller was appointed as a special prosecutor, those personally familiar with the ins and outs of the Watergate scandal started weighing in about the comparisons, and as time went on, some like Washington Post investigative journalist Carl Bernstein suggested that the Trump presidency was actually “worse than Watergate.”

Mediaite says that beyond Bernstein’s statement that the Trump administration is worse than Watergate, he also added that the NYT‘s report on Trump’s questions about the Justice Department’s possible investigations into Hillary Clinton and James Comey was eerily similar to the articles of impeachment used against the former President Richard Nixon.

Donald Trump “seems rattled” by the latest moves by Robert Mueller in the Russia collusion investigation, according to a report by NBC News on Monday, and Trump’s mood is likely to get worse this week as Mueller prepares to unleash a series of potentially devastating revelations — including a court filing scheduled for Friday that will include details about “crimes and lies” by Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign chief Paul Manafort.

Mueller will also file documents in two other cases involving former close associates of Trump who have pleaded guilty to crimes in connection with the Russia investigation — Trump’s original national security adviser Michael Flynn and his former, longtime personal lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen, according to NBC, which reported that the new Mueller documents will contain new revelations about “bad acts” committed by Flynn and Cohen, but for which they have not been criminally charged.

United States special counsel Robert Mueller will file a sentencing recommendation for Michael Flynn by tonight’s midnight deadline, the details of which could reveal new insights into the Mueller probe– including potential criminal indictments– as it details Flynn’s cooperation with the special counsel, according to CNN.

The court filing is expected to detail both the crimes that Flynn was involved with as well as how he has cooperated with the Mueller investigation over the course of the past year. Flynn was indicted and pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators on December 1, 2017. Based on the information in the filing, the federal court will consider Flynn’s cooperation when it issues his sentence. According to Reuters, the maximum sentence for lying to the FBI is five years, but Flynn’s plea agreement calls for as many as six months and as little as no jail time for Flynn, and he can ask the court not to impose a fine.

A police officer in London charged with protecting the royal family is being accused of texting a teen who was visiting Buckingham Palace with her mother for an event hosted by Queen Elizabeth.

The Vancouver Sun says that Royal Protection Officer Andrew Daly is not contesting that he sent a sexually suggestive message to a teen outside a Buckingham Palace garden party hosted by the queen. Daly is said to have asked the 16-year-old girl for her number and then sending her texts that were deemed “inappropriate.”

Daly is not denying that in 2016 while protecting the royal family at an event, his behavior was unprofessional, but he did not attend a police misconduct hearing today to review the evidence. The girl has not been identified as she was a minor at the time of the alleged incident, but she testified today in a closed meeting.

The migrant caravan traveling through Mexico

On Monday, the frustrations of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border waiting to hear about a decision made over their plea for asylum boiled over, and many started climbing over the fence.

As reported by Business Insider, migrants have been stuck in the border city of Tijuana, and on Monday Reuters journalists witnessed over two dozen of them climb over the 10-foot-high fence in under an hour. At present, the border at Tijuana is protected by a fence made of thick sheets and pillars of metal.

While many of those hopping the fence immediately surrendered themselves to officials on the U.S. side who were waiting to take them into custody under floodlights, a small group tried to run to avoid capture. They were hoping that climbing over the fence would allow them to apply for asylum more quickly since they are now on U.S. soil.

Just in time for the holiday season, Nabisco released a unique invention based on the brand’s popular Oreo cookie — a miniature Oreo cookie record player. Instead of an average record player, though, this one plays music by actually spinning cookies. It doesn’t quite sound like a device that would really work, but Oreo fans were impressed to find out that it does.

The “record” player, called the Oreo Music Box, runs for just $19.99 on Amazon — but the product is currently (and unsurprisingly) sold out, according to NME. The music box comes included in a collectible tin gift box with other Oreo products, such as original Oreo cookies, White Fudge cookies, and Oreo Thins.

Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan may play a cold, mean character on the AMC hit show, The Walking Dead, but he proved to his fans this week he has a heart of gold. After seeing an Instagram post from North Carolina-based Carolina Waterfowl Rescue regarding a bonded donkey and emu that can’t live without the other, Morgan stepped up and offered to take both of them, according to his Twitter account.

The male donkey and female emu, who were named Jack and Diane, were rescued from a farm in South Carolina after the owner abandoned the farm and the animals, according to Carolina Waterfowl Rescue. According to the Charlotte Observer, the donkey and emu were housed together at the farm and had clearly bonded. Jennifer Gordon, founder of the nonprofit organization, knew it would be difficult to adopt them out together. If the two are separated, Diane “drums” for Jack, something only a female emu does to call for their mate.

Prince Charles of Wales had the opportunity to meet with many brave individuals who persist in their faith despite facing the risk of death. The prince says he was humbled by the experience and later spoke out at a service at Westminster Abbey regarding the need for peaceful coexistence.

The prince shared the story of a brave Iraqi nun who helped rescue many Christians from religious persecution. The Dominican sister from Nineveh, Iraq met with Prince Charles earlier this year to tell her story. She guided over 100,000 Christians to safety after they were forced out of their homes and communities which were destroyed by Islamic State extremists. Michael Flynn

Robert Mueller released his sentencing memo for former national security adviser Michael Flynn late on Friday, which suggested that the retired general offered the special counsel’s Russia investigation “substantial” assistance.

However, reports suggest that the biggest bombshell in Mueller’s heavily redacted court document is that the probe into the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russian officials was not even the most important investigation for which Flynn provided his “substantial” help. What was the most important one? Mueller leaves the answer a mystery, except to say that it is a “criminal” investigation, as the addendum to the sentencing memo filed with the United States District Court in Washington D.C. states.

Meat-Eating Must Drastically Fall In Order To Support Growing World Population And Halt Climate Change

Cows grazing in a field.

Our current food habits are draining the planet of its resources, contributing to cataclysmic climate change, and leaving billions of people underfed, reports the Guardian. A report from the World Resources Institute (WRI) warns that if meat production continues at its current rate, we will need 50 percent more food by 2050 to feed a growing world population. Additionally, if we don’t decrease production by two-thirds, the world’s remaining forests will face complete destruction and climate change will continue spiraling out of control.

Meat and dairy production uses 83 percent of all farmland available and also produces 60 percent of the world’s agricultural emissions. The WRI warns that in addition to the environmental concerns that arise from the consumption and production of food, humans are facing an “existential issue.”

Tim Searchinger, of the WRI and Princeton University, expands on the issue.
