A New York man wrongly accused of hiding drugs in his colon not only got an unwanted rectal probe, but also got stuck with the $4,600 bill — after police found nothing hidden there.
The incident took place in Syracuse, where police say Torrence Jackson was picked up by police after failing to use his turn signal. As the BBC reported, a search of the man’s car turned up a bag of marijuana as well as cocaine residue, but police believed that the man had more drugs he was hiding — inside his body. Jackson denied the allegation.
Officers had claimed that Jackson’s posture made them think he was hiding the drugs inside his body, and an officer was injured during the struggle to arrest him. Jackson also broke his arm in the struggle, before being taken into custody.
Doctors first took an X-ray of Jackson’s body, which showed no foreign objects in his body.
As reported by Rappler, a video of a bullying incident at a prominent school in the Philippines went viral on Thursday. The aggressor forced a few of his peers to choose between getting beaten up and preserving their dignity, then chose to physically assault one of the boys. A short version of this disturbing story would be to say that there have been a lot of calls on social media for the school to take decisive action against the apparent bully, and have him expelled from the institution. But this incident hit very close to home for this writer in particular, not just because I once attended an all-boys’ school and dealt with bullying well into young adulthood. On a broader scale, the incident reveals the extent to which the cultures of toxic masculinity and “affluenza” remain pervasive on campuses around the world, especially in all-male institutions.
Justin McConney was the president’s social media director at one time — and, according to his own accounting, the man who taught Donald Trump how to tweet. The plan was for McConney to write drafts for Trump to approve, but McConney likens the feeling of finding out that Trump was tweeting for himself to that scene in Jurassic Park where the Velociraptors learned how to open doors on their own.
Business Insider details that, in a new interview with Politico, McConney says that his stomach dropped.
“The moment I found out Trump could tweet himself was comparable to the moment in Jurassic Park when Dr. Grant realized that velociraptors could open doors. I was like, ‘Oh no.'”
McConney says that Trump started tweeting on his own in 2013, and what started out as observational commentary took a turn when the social media director thought that Trump needed to lighten up.
“[He] should go back to having more of a sense of humor about himself.”
Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been vandalized yet again, this time by a vandal who drew swastikas on it — and wrote a vulgar Spanish phrase, TMZ is reporting.
TMZ has a camera pointed at the site of the star, and its live stream captured a middle-aged man approach the star and pull out a marking device. The vandal would then bend down and apparently deface the star, walking away afterwards.
It happened at about 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19. The act took place in broad daylight — in front of tourists — yet no one seemed to notice or bat an eye. Two women in the captured footage do seem to take notice, but don’t appear to be prepared to do anything about it.
A day after Donald Trump announced a sudden pullout of United States troops from Syria, paving the way for the Russian military — with 63,000 Russian troops already seeing action there, as Inquisitr reported — to take free reign there, the author of a bestselling book about Trump’s connections to Russia in the 2016 presidential election issued a dire warning on Thursday. Said author claims that the “big story” of Trump’s administration has been largely ignored by the media, Washington, and the public.
“It’s important for all of us (and the media) to keep the spotlight on a central element that has already been established beyond any doubt,” wrote investigative journalist David Corn on Mother Jones. “Trump betrayed his fellow Americans.”
Katrina Danforth, an adult film actress who performs under the names Lynn Passion and Lynn Pleasant has been arrested for trying to hire a hitman to murder someone. According to The New York Post, Danforth was arrested at the Spokane International Airport in Washington on Wednesday morning. She is 31 years old.
Authorities believe than Danforth used the phone four times and the mail once in an effort to make contact with a murderer for hire. Her intended target is an unnamed individual who lives in Idaho where Danforth is from. The would-be victim is safe, The New York Post reports. In the official documents, the target is referred to as R.H.
The arrest was triggered by an indictment in the US District Court in Idaho.
With the ominous title of “Hell,” it looks like Episode 15 of History Channel’s Vikings Season 5 could be a traumatic one. So, what can fans expect to see?
History Channel provides the following synopsis for Episode 15 (titled “Hell”).
“Bishop Heahmund is wracked with guilt as he fights to renounce his passions. Viking will clash with Saxon on a battlefield leaving a key figure lost in the balance.”
It seems that Bishop Heahmund’s (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) sinning ways have caught up with him in the next episode of Vikings Season 5, according to the synopsis as well as the trailer.
In the trailer, he has had a vision of hell and doesn’t like what he sees. Which, for Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), likely means a break up in Episode 15. Will this poor woman ever find love?
“The lord came to me last night,” Heahmund says to Lagertha.
“He showed me a vision, a vision of hell, and I was afraid.”
If you notice that the tip of your Hershey’s Kisses are missing this holiday season, it may not be an accident.
Bakers and assorted chocolate aficionados have noticed that the iconic treats suddently have blunted tips rather than the sharp points they once saw. Many of these people have taken to social media to complain, and some even reached out to the company to ask why the tips are suddenly missing. As WQAD reported, they are getting a surprising answer.
According to a number of people who have reached customer service at the chocolate maker, The Hershey Company is purposely cutting off the tips of its Kisses in an effort to prevent the tips from falling off during transit and collective at the bottom of bags.
Laura Magone, founder of the baking group The Wedding Cookie Table Community, wasn’t happy with the explanation. She took to her group’s Facebook page to share her frustrations over the intentionally blunted treats.
A former Lehigh University student was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment, NBC News is reporting.
Yukai Yang, age 22, was an international student from China and studying chemistry. He was first accused of leaving racist graffiti for his black roommate, Juwan Royal, to find. Now, Yang is accused of trying to kill Royal by slowly poisoning him over the span of a few months with small amounts of thallium and possibly other chemicals.
Thallium is a toxic metal that is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, rendering it almost undetectable. It can result in death if consumed. According to NBC Philadelphia, thallium was once used in a household rodent or ant killer but was eventually banned in the United States.
“Initially, Mr. Royal was as dumbfounded by this as everyone else, because he believed they had a fairly cordial relationship as roommates,” said Assistant District Attorney Abe Kassis.
Building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, allegedly in an effort to curb illegal immigration, was one of Donald Trump’s key campaign promises. So far, the president has not delivered. Trump has repeatedly threatened a government shutdown, effectively blackmailing Congress to provide funding for the expensive border project.
Earlier today, the president posted a video to Twitter, calling on the Democratic Party to put the “safety” of the American people first, urging that border security becomes the “number one” priority for both parties. Trump continues to blame immigrants for crime, although research — a 2018 Cato Institute study, for instance — suggests that immigrants, both legal and illegal, commit fewer criminal acts than native-born Americans.
Reason, research, and facts have evidently not stopped Donald Trump from insisting on building a border wall, but an unwilling Congress is making the president’s mission vastly more complicated. This reluctance has prompted Trump supporters to take matters into their own hands.
Middle school students in two Iowa school districts will soon be learning how to properly handle firearms as part of a mandatory hunter safety course being introduced in the next year.
Students in both the seventh and eighth grades in the North Butler and Clarksville school districts will take part in the classes starting in the 2019-20 school year, The Hill reported. High school students will also be able to take part in a voluntary class teaching how to properly use firearms, the report noted.
As school officials said, they hope the classes will properly teach students how to handle firearms — and to respect them. In the classes, students will learn how to “use weapons responsibly, how to respect them, understand it’s not a video game and those sort of things, that maybe we’ll cut down on our chances of having a severe incident,” said North Butler Superintendent Joel Foster.
On Thursday afternoon, NBC News reported that the investigation into possible collusion between Donald Trump and Russia in the 2016 presidential campaign will likely end as soon as February of 2019. The NBC News report, which echoed a Yahoo! News report of just 17 days earlier, was attributed to “sources.”
But both reports may have been sourced from the same anonymous individual or individuals, with both using similar phrasing — including the phrase, “tying up loose ends.” The phrase first appeared in the December 3 Yahoo! News report as a quote from a “source,” and was then repeated as an anonymous quote in the NBC News report on Thursday.
For five weeks, senior citizens around Englewood, New Jersey, participated in a public art collage project which was held at the Bergen Family Center for Independent living. Broadway World reports that the art exhibit is a smash hit, and highlights a call for better public health needs. This art project was part of the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation’s Build-A-Village project (NNJCF). The Englewood Chamber of Commerce hosted the senior citizen art event.
Michael Shannon, the president of the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation, gave a statement to reporters about the Build-A-Village project and what it was seeking to address.
“Involving seniors in creative, social activities such as public art is healthy, both physically and mentally. The Build-A-Village project addressed the public health need of senior citizens experiencing loneliness and isolation. They used their imagination and connected with others through the arts.”
The man behind the transfer of the Steele dossier to Buzzfeed has been identified by a court filing yesterday. The name of John McCain associate David Kramer was revealed in conjunction with a federal lawsuit won by the media outlet, which published the dossier back in early January, 2017, after the 2016 election and before Donald Trump took office.
The Daily Mail says that David Kramer is a former State Department official who worked with John McCain for years as an executive with the John McCain Institute.
The lawsuit, which unveiled Kramer’s name, was filed by a businessman who says he was maligned by the Buzzfeed article, which spoke at length about alleged Trump contacts with Russia including interactions with Russian prostitutes.
It was previously known that McCain had some connection with former British spy Christopher Steele, but the name of the person who met with Steele was not identified.
Sometimes your actions come back to haunt you, while at other times, your past is so checkered that no matter how much whitewashing you might try and do, the crimes simply cannot be wished away. This is what seems to have happened with Republican Michael Williams, a state senator from Georgia who infamously ran a “Deportation Bus Tour” to the state’s “sanctuary cities” in his ultimately unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign. This week, Williams was indicted on fraud charges, according to the Hill.
The threat of a government shutdown is looming as the temporary spending bill passed by the House of Representatives that would offer funding for the president’s border wall is expected to see rejection in the Senate, and one official, the Hill reported, has made it clear that she would not appreciate any blame for the event to be placed on Democrats.
After President Trump announced he would not sign a stopgap bill if it didn’t include border wall money, Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono appeared on the airing of the MSNBC news show All In with Chris Hayes on Thursday, December 20, and used some NSFW language during the live program to criticize the potential accusations that would fly in the event that the government does in fact close.
Not everyone knows that former U.S. President Barack H. Obama briefly lived in Pasadena, California. It was while he attended Occidental College in Eagle Rock from 1979-1981 before transferring to Columbia University in New York.
As a way to honor Obama, California state lawmakers extended a presidential tribute to him by naming a stretch of the California 134 Freeway after him. The honorary roadway runs from State Route 2 in Glendale to Interstate 210 in Pasadena, passing through Eagle Rock, reports LAist.com.
Reflective white letters officially proclaim the President Barack H. Obama Highway on green signs posted along the Los Angeles-area freeway. Installation was completed this week, more than a year after the state law was signed in September 2017.
State Sen. Anthony Portantino and Congressman Jimmy Gomez introduced the motion in December 2016 with overwhelming support from fellow lawmakers.
On Friday morning, Patrick Frazee was arrested for the murder of his missing fiancee, Kelsey Berreth. According to ABC News, Berreth vanished a month ago, and no trace of her has been discovered since.
Since the disappearance of his fiancee, Frazee has mostly avoided the public eye. He’s spoken primarily through his attorney, Jeremy Loew, who says his client is focusing “on parenting the child he shares with Ms. Berreth.”
Berreth, a Colorado pilot, was last seen visiting a Safeway near her home in Woodland Park. Surveillance footage from the store shows her shopping with her 1-year-old daughter. It is the last recorded documentation of her whereabouts, although Frazee insists that he saw her later in the day.
Frazee has reportedly been cooperating with authorities in their search, which began when Berreth’s mother filed a missing person’s report back on December 2. The FBI has since gotten involved in the case.
A 2-year-old British boy was left permanently infertile after doctors treating an undescended testicle accidentally operated on the wrong one, leaving family members angered.
The incident happened at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, where the unnamed toddler was set to undergo a routine procedure to correct an undescended testicle that the boy’s pediatrician noticed during a routine checkup. As the BBC reported, doctors told the family that there was minimal risk and the procedure itself would take about half an hour.
But after a very long wait, the boy’s parents said doctors arrived to deliver some bad news. A doctor had reportedly inserted a camera into the “wrong side,” which doctors said left the boy’s healthy testicle unable to function for the rest of his life.
The boy’s parents said the mistake was devastating.
“I was very distressed, it was an awful disaster for a simple operation they destroyed everything and they ruined my son,” his father said.
The small Scottish town of Lockerbie fell silent today as it remembered the 30th anniversary of the bombing of Pan-Am Flight 103 from London Heathrow to New York over the town.
The Lockerbie bombing cost the lives of 270 people with multiple victims on the ground as well as all the 243 passengers and 16 crew on board. The majority of those who lost their lives were U.S. citizens, with the victims including 35 students from Syracuse University in New York State.
Among those attending today’s memorial service were the family and friends of several of the U.S. citizens who lost their lives in the tragedy, according to the Daily Mail. There is also a similar memorial service taking place at Arlington National Cemetary in Virginia, where around 500 people are expected to attend.
