Pennsylvania grand jury report called "obscene lie" by Catholic League president.

A Pennsylvania grand jury report was released last week detailing the child sexual abuse allegations against more than 300 Roman Catholic priests. The report claims that church leaders covered up the scandal. More than 1,000 child victims were identifiable, according to NBC News.

Catholic League President Bill Donohue has written a commentary “debunking” the report, which has been published on CNS News. According to DeadState, CNS News is an affiliate of the right-leaning Media Research Center.

Donohue begins his commentary by saying “the percentage of priests who had an accusation made against them is quite small.” He goes on to state that it is unfair to single out the Catholic Church.

He also criticizes Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who he nicknames “salacious,” for saying the priests raped their victims.

“This is an obscene lie,” Donohue writes. “Most of the alleged victims were not raped: they were groped or otherwise abused, but not penetrated, which is what the word ‘rape’ means.”

According to officials, the boxes contained a homemade detonator, a timer, wiring, a battery, a bottle of nitroglycerin and an explosive organic compound known as HMTD, or hexamethylene triperoxide diamine.

Upon being caught, Schneck, who is believed to suffer from some behavioral disabilities, attempted to drink some of the liquid explosives but then spit them onto the ground.

Former ICE Agent Charged With Sexual Assault Rape

A man from Riverside, California who once worked as a special agent for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted one woman and raped another woman on two separate occasions. In both cases, Fox News reports that 43-year-old John Jacob Olivas used his position of authority to keep the women quiet about what had happened. Olivas was employed by ICE at the time of his alleged crimes and both women were being detained by the Homeland Security division when they were attacked. He told both women that reporting what had happened would be useless and that no one would believe their claims or take any action against him because of his position as a federal officer.

Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Trump Russia scandal, Robert Mueller

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who is now a lawyer and public spokesperson for Donald Trump, tried out a new line of defense for his client during an appearance on the NBC TV program Meet The Press Sunday morning, prompting the show’s host Chuck Todd to warn Giuliani that his statement was about to become “a bad meme,” Politico reported.

The exchange came as Todd pressed Giuliani on why he believed that Trump should not allow himself to be interviewed under oath by Russia investigation Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Giuliani insisted, as he has on previous occasions per CNN, that Mueller would attempt to set a “perjury trap” for Trump if Trump were to testify in the Special Counsel’s investigation into collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia.

Mueller is also investigating whether Trump committed the crime of obstructing justice by taking steps to deliberately impede the investigation, as The New York Times and other outlets have reported.

FDNY NYPD brawl

A massive brawl between members of the FDNY and NYPD, amongst others, has spurred multiple investigations into the conduct of several first responders, according to the New York Post. The video that has been shared internally with investigators and top departmental heads has left them shocked and dismayed, wondering what could have created such deep and violent chaos between members of their own ranks in the public service.

More than a dozen firefighters pummeled a trio of first responders from another borough with punches and kicks to the head, some delivered while the victim was already down and out of the fight, according to sources.

The tape shown to FDNY brass features Adam Soler, 35, of Engine 68, as he is restrained by two firefighters from Rescue Company 3. Soler is then repeatedly kicked by a third, according to sources familiar with the video who commented on the grisly scene that would go on to occur.

“Someone grabbed his head and started pounding it into the pavement.”

TSA surveillance being questioned.

The Quiet Skies program by TSA at airports is supposed to keep people safe from the bad guys. However, one woman named Taylor Usry is baffled at why she was chosen to be surveilled so heavily during a recent flight. Taylor was not only watched closely as she made every little move at the airport, but she was also accompanied by two federal marshals on her flight, revealed the Boston Globe.

When Taylor arrived at the airport, the marshals already had reviewed a file of information about her. She was apparently targeted only because she had recently traveled to Turkey on a one-way ticket. Taylor didn’t have any other motive to travel there, however, than to attend an art workshop for work. Her husband bought her the one-way ticket instead of a roundtrip to save money.

Retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Peters, who left Fox News in March, slammed his former-colleagues, calling the news network a “threat” to America, referring to his colleagues as “prostitutes” for Trump.

In an interview with CNN‘s Brian Stelter – key parts of which have been transcribed by Alternet– Peters, a former Russia analyst, touched on everything from Trump, over Vladimir Putin, to his colleagues, and the current state of American politics, as well as the American media landscape.

According to Peters, Trump is a “distinctly un-American president,” who doesn’t understand or respect the Constitution, and who appears to be enthralled to a hostile foreign power.

“We have a president who does not respect our system of government, does not understand our government, who is not interested in understanding our government, who believes that the Constitution is a menu from which he can choose only the most delectable items, who doesn’t respect the Constitution.”

What started out as a regular trip to the Goodwill store for Missouri resident Anita Minks turned into an amazing tale after the discovery of human remains.

On July 31, Minks had visited her local Goodwill, where she purchased a decorative glass globe for $2. The globe had a printed prayer inside, it played the tune of “Amazing Grace” whenever the dial was turned, and also featured a spot to display a photo. When Minks purchased the globe, it already had a photo of a smiling woman but according to The Washington Post, the 65-year-old planned to simply replace the image with one of her deceased son, who had passed away over a decade ago.

However, upon closer inspection of the decorative item, Minks noticed something strange. She discovered the globe held the ashes of a human being and soon realized the ashes must belong to the smiling woman in the photo on the front of the urn-shaped globe.

Blake Farenthold: Disgraced GOP Rep Blames 'F***tards' For Sexual Harassment Allegations That Brought Him Down

Blake Farenthold, a Republican from Texas, served in the United States House of Representatives from 2011 until April of this year when he resigned amidst a whirlwind of sexual harassment accusations, and revelations that he had paid $84,000 of public funds to settle a sex harassment lawsuit against him dating from 2014, according to a report by the Huffington Post. But in a recent court deposition for a case involving the job he has held since leaving Congress, the 56-year-old Farenthold refused to blame himself for his political downfall — instead, finding a number of other culprits.

Among those Farenthold blames for his sexual harassment scandal are women in the #MeToo movement, and “f-tards,” according to a new report by the Huffington Post. In the deposition, Farenthold — who has a net worth of nearly $6 million, according to the watchdog site Open Secrets— also said that he has not reimbursed the $84,000 in taxpayer dollars he used to pay off the sexual harassment lawsuit because to do so would be “illegal.”

Catholic church sees drop in members after sex scandals

After a Pennsylvania grand jury exposed a massive coverup of child sexual abuse by leaders of the Catholic church, in which 1,000 children were abused by more than 300 priests, many parishioners are yet again having a crisis of faith. As the Washington Post reports, the Catholic church “has lost more members in recent decades than any other major faith.” In citing a 2015 poll from the Pew research center, 27 percent of people who once considered themselves Catholic do not identify as such now — and they cite the numerous clergy sexual abuse scandals as their main reason for leaving the church.

Piece of the Whitechapel fatberg on display at the Museum on London, as part of the "Fatberg!" exhibit.

Last year, the world gaped in awe as Thames Water employees discovered a “monstrous” mass of congealed excrement and waste blocking a Victorian-era sewer tunnel in the east side of London, in the Whitechapel area.

Dubbed the “Whitechapel fatberg,” this historic sewage clog was probably the largest one ever found and measured 250 meters (820 feet) in length, weighing 130 tons (260,000 pounds). In other words, it was longer than two football fields and weighed about as much as 11 double-decker buses, Ars Technica reported in September.

Now, a piece of that hardened blob of excrement and waste that Londoners have flushed down the drain, including condoms, diapers, and wet wipes glued together by fats and oils, is being live-streamed by the Museum of London as a prized artifact — a putrid, metaphorical memento of life in the 21st century.

Twin panda cubs

A BBC Earth video recently posted on YouTube (which can be viewed at the top of the article) showcases how crafty zookeepers are able to keep twin newborn pandas alive by tricking the new panda mom into thinking she only has one cub.

Narrated by David Attenborough, the video reveals multiple cub births in pandas are extremely common. Unfortunately, it is also just as common for only one of the panda cubs to make it. According to the video, new panda moms almost always favor one cub and abandon any other cubs she gave birth to.

Experts believe this is a decision the new mother makes because she does not feel as though she supplies enough milk to support multiple cubs. Rather than taking the risk of losing both babies by trying to feed and support them both, the mother favors one while the other starves to death.

Former President Barack Obama posted a list of the books he’s been reading this summer to Facebook. Obama, a Harvard Law graduate and author of several books, has been reading an eclectic mix of fiction, memoirs, and biographies during his down time this summer.

This summer I’ve been absorbed by new novels, revisited an old classic, and reaffirmed my faith in our ability to move forward together when we seek the truth.”

The first book on his list is Educated by Tara Westover. Educated is a memoir of the author’s experiences being raised in a survivalist home in Idaho. She didn’t enter a classroom until she was age 17, but she was ultimately able to attend college and earn a Ph.D. from Cambridge University.

Michael Cohen, former Trump attorney, is being investigated for $20 million in bank fraud.

Michael Cohen, former lawyer to President Donald Trump, is being investigated for more than $20 million in bank and tax fraud, according to sources speaking to The New York Times. The fraud relates to loans obtained by taxi businesses that Cohen and his family own.

According to their sources, the inquiry is reaching its final stage and charges may be filed by the end of August. In addition to investigating the bank fraud, investigators are also allegedly looking into whether Cohen violated any laws relating to campaign finance when he was working for President Trump. In particular, they are looking into the hush money Cohen paid to women who claimed to have affairs with Donald Trump.

Cohen’s investigation is being conducted by the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office. The investigation stems from the larger investigation being conducted by the Justice Department under Special Counsel Robert Mueller, according to The New York Post. Mueller is looking into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential race.

Chicago 'Peace Picnic' Aimed At Promoting Non-Violence Ends With Three People Being Shot, Another Badly Beaten

A back-to-school event in Chicago aimed at promoting peace amid a violent summer ended with three people getting shot and another badly beaten.

The event took place in Seward Park in the city’s troubled North Side, an event meant to bring the community together and promote non-violence. But Fox News reported that a group of young men showed up and started fighting, leading to gunfire and chaos.

The annual event draws hundreds of local residents who come together to share food and festivities before children head back to schools. Organizers said they don’t know why a group of young people decided to come and start trouble.

“It’s senseless and should have never happened,” said event organizer Raymond Hatcher. “We were doing well. Everything was going swell and then a group of guys who were not associated with us, came to the event intoxicated.”

Lockheed Martin responsible for selling bomb used in attack on school bus full of children

Lockheed Martin, the American defense contracting company, has come under fire this week after they tweeted in honor of World Photo Day. According to the Huffington Post, the company, who’s also the world’s largest weapons manufacturer, tweeted and asked its followers to share a photo of one of their favorite Lockheed Martin products.

“Do you have an amazing photo of one of our products? Tag us in your pic and we may feature it during our upcoming #WorldPhotoDay celebration on Aug. 19!” read the since-deleted tweet. The company got more than they bargained for after they started receiving photos of “filled with blood and violence reportedly caused by its products in Yemen.”
