Millions of comments supporting a controversial stance to squash net neutrality may have actually come from Russian bots using stolen identities, including some from people who have died, a new report claims.

The Department of Justice is now investigating how millions of fake messages were sent to the Federal Communications Commission, Buzzfeed reported. The comments were reportedly traced back to Russian email addresses, with nearly 21 million of the 22 million comments that the FCC received actually coming from Russians.

As the Huffington Post noted, the comments found to be unique were almost entirely in favor of net neutrality, the idea that internet service providers should provide equal access to all content, without favoring or blocking certain websites. Opponents said that eliminating net neutrality would allow providers to hike prices for certain websites or throttle websites.

Alyssa Zebrasky mughsot

The internet might have seen strange mugshots in its time. Earlier this year, the mugshot of 44-year-old Florida woman Angenette Welk showing her smiling after a fatal DUI crash had sparked outrage online, as reported by the Inquisitr at the time, but Alyssa Zebrasky’s skull-tattooed face is probably one it won’t forget for a long time to come either. Giving social media its taste for the creepy, the 27-year-old’s mugshot, released by the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, has become the talk of the internet in no time.

Arrested for shoplifting from Walmart in Ohio’s Boardman Township earlier this week, the police later found a hypodermic needle, a ‘whitish rock like substance’ and an ‘orange pill’ in her possession, according to the Daily Mail. But it was with the release of Zebrasky’s tattoed mugshot after which the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office began receiving a lot of internet attention.

A Utah teen has been sentenced to five years to life for helping his friend commit suicide and filming the act on his cell phone, CNN is reporting.

Prosecutors claimed that Tyerell Przybycien, who was 18 years old at the time (May 2017), bought a rope and tied it into a noose, then gave it to his friend, Jchandra Brown, so she could hang herself. He also purchased the compressed air Brown used to knock herself out before dying. Przybycien then recorded the young lady killing herself on his cell phone, providing audio commentary during the 10-minute video.

Even Przybycien’s defense attorneys admitted that the youth played a role in the young lady’s suicide, but they differed with prosecutors over the extent of that role.

Earlier this week, rappers Cardi B and Offset sparked a media firestorm when they confirmed they’d be going their separate ways, just months after the birth of their daughter. While most fans weren’t exactly shocked — due to Offset’s cheating scandals — many still admitted that the split is quite disheartening, as Cardi B did everything she possibly could have to defend the Migos rapper. Although Cardi has put on a brave face in wake of the highly publicized split, insiders have revealed the “Bodak Yellow” rapper is having a very difficult time behind closed doors.

Collection agencies can be voracious in their attempts to collect a debt, and it’s legal in most cases for them to contact you by phone, email, or even come to your door. Their debt collection practices are utilized for many reasons, including collecting unpaid student lunch fees, apparently. Some parents in Rhode Island found that out the hard way via a school letter stating that a collection agency hired by the Cranston School District would be contacting them to collect outstanding lunch balances their children had accrued.

According to the letter sent to parents that was obtained by NBC 10 News, Raymond Votto Jr., the COO of the Rhode Island Cranston School District, wrote that the district had tried to collect the outstanding debt on the lunches previously, but did not meet with much success.

Former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey comes out of the hearing room at the Rayburn House Office Building after testifying to the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees on Capitol Hill December 07, 2018 in Washington, DC.

James Comey had long made his intention to testify publicly clear, but members of the House of Representatives nevertheless decided to have his testimony heard on various matters behind closed doors. One day after the hearing which took place on Friday, however, a 235-page transcript from the hearing was released, and it shed a new light on some important details about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, according to the Atlantic. These are the four most important things which we learned from Comey’s closed-door testimony.

Mueller is pursuing an “obstruction of justice” angle.

Although there has been much talk about the “collusion” angle this week with prosecutors recommending a hefty jail for Trump’s former fixer, Michael Cohen — in part because of his continuous overtures to Russian officials during the 2016 election — James Comey’s testimony confirmed that Robert Mueller is also investigating the “obstruction of justice” angle with equal interest.

Donald Trump may face jail time

After Donald Trump was accused by United States Justice Department of taking part in a felony in filings Friday by the U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York, as New York Magazine reported, Trump now faces the prospect of a criminal indictment on the very day he leaves office. That prediction came Sunday from Adam Schiff, the California congressional representative who is also the incoming chair of the House Intelligence Committee.

In court documents Friday filed in support of a sentencing recommendation for Trump’s former personal lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen, the SDNY said that Trump — identified as “Individual-1” — ordered Cohen to make “hush money” payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels and Playboy centerfold model Karen McDougal, as Inquisitr has reported. The payments were designed to silence the two women over extramarital sexual affairs they say that they had with Trump in 2006 and 2007.

Thousands of residents in South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia also experienced power outages.

The transcript goes on to describe the sounds of a saw cutting up Kahshoggi’s body — possibly while the Washington Post columnist was still alive.

“As the transcript continues, it is clear Khashoggi is not yet dead,” the CNN report said. The transcript does not specify the moment Khashoggi dies.

Police in Tulare, California say Heather Langdon, mother to 10-month-old twin boys, was arrested on suspicion of drowning the tots in the bathtub of a motel on Thursday. The 37-year-old mother allegedly committed the act after leaving a women’s shelter, according to People.

So far, no motive has been discussed by the police for the drowning of the boys, and authorities say that Langdon now faces murder charges for the drowning deaths of twins Mason and Maddox Murguia.

Heather Langdon was staying at the motel after she was kicked out of the shelter for creating a disturbance, police said. Additionally, the motel had allowed Langdon to stay there for free.

Maria Marez lives near the motel Langdon was staying in and she told Your Central Valley about the way the mother was acting the day of the twins’ death.

Huawei CFO, Meng Wanzhou

China has issued a clear statement of protest over the arrest of Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou. CNN reports that the global superpower has issued a summons to the U.S. and Canadian ambassadors to China because of Wanzhou’s detention in Vancouver on December 1.

The statement came from China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Yucheng, and said that the arrest, “severely violated the Chinese citizen’s legal and legitimate rights and interests, it is lawless, reasonless and ruthless, and it is extremely vicious.”

As CNN notes, Canada is holding Wanzhou because she’s wanted in the US because Huawei has allegedly been bypassing American sanctions against Iran by falsely stating that a subsidiary of Huawei is a standalone company.

The statement from Yucheng was particularly tough on the U.S.’ northern neighbor, warning of “serious consequences” for Canada if she isn’t released. Canada “will have to bear the full responsibility for it,” it said.

Then Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump (C) walks off stage as his family looks on.

Special counsel Robert Mueller might not have yet established that Trump’s team acted in coordination with Russians to influence the 2016 presidential elections, but growing evidence of continuous contact between Trump associates and Russians makes that possibility seem likely. On Sunday, Washington Post reported that at least 14 Trump associates were in contact with Russians during Trump’s campaign trail, leading Michael McFaul, who served as ambassador to Russia under President Barack Obama, to call it the most “extraordinary” development he had noticed in his time.

“It is extremely unusual. Both the number of contacts and the nature of the contacts are extraordinary.”

The bodies of two sea lions were found along the Washington coast with gunshot wounds to the head, bringing the total of animals killed in recent weeks to 18.

Officials this week confirmed that two more animals were found dead in the Puget Sound. As My NorthWest reported, the bodies of the animals showed severe decomposition, leading officials to think that they had been killed several weeks ago.

“We found these sea lions both washed up in the West Seattle area on December 4 and December 5. One we believe was reported across the waterway previously, so that animal just washed to the West Seattle area after about a day,” said Casey Mclean, who works with a local marine wildlife nonprofit group called SR.

Yazmin Juarez illegally crossed the Mexican border into the United States while fleeing an abusive home life, and was detained after she crossed the border. As ABC News reported, Juarez and her daughter, Mariee, were taken to a family detention center in Dilley, Texas, where medical care is provided by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Health Services.

Mariee developed a respiratory infection shortly after entering the detention center, and her mother said the toddler received substandard treatment for the next two weeks. During that time, the little girl saw a doctor only once, medical records showed. Yazmin said she also tried to bring the girl to a medical clinic in the detention center but was told several times to leave and make an appointment the following day.

Carl Bernstein attends the 2017 New Yorker Festival - All The President's Reporters at SVA Theatre on October 6, 2017 in New York City.

Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein, one of the two reporters with Bob Woodward at the Washington Post who was instrumental in bringing down Richard Nixon, says Donald Trump is “concerned” for the “first time in his life” and is likely to face impeachment proceedings, according to Newsweek.

Appearing on CNN‘s Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter, Bernstein was speaking in reference to the latest revelations offered by Robert Mueller and other federal prosecutors. Friday filings by them showed that Cohen had acted on the direction of Trump to pay off two women, Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, before the 2016 presidential elections in an attempt to ward off any negative publicity. Earlier, Cohen had not confessed that Trump had directed his actions, considered a felony because he violated campaign finance laws, but his admission now puts the president in deep peril. Carl Bernstein agreed with several legal experts who concluded that this was the first time we actually know about Trump directing a felony crime.

There is a new addition to the Columbus Zoo and it is enough to melt even the coldest of hearts. A new baby elephant was born to Phoebe, an Asian elephant mom, on Thursday, December 6 at 3:09 a.m. This birth was a highly anticipated event for both the staff and for everyone who loves these animals. After the little one had its first examination by the care team, it was determined that the baby is a girl.

The announcement was made on the Columbus Zoo’s website and also all over their social media accounts. Phoebe was artificially inseminated as an attempt to mate with a male elephant named Hank was said to be unsuccessful. Hank and another male’s sperm was used, so it is not certain at this point exactly which one is the father of the newborn. The parentage will be determined at a later date.

Robert Mueller, Donald Trump, & Vladimir Putin Are All On The ‘TIME’ 2018 Person Of The Year Shortlist

time magazine

Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and FBI special counsel Robert Mueller are all on Time magazine’s shortlist to be named 2018’s Person of the Year, Time is reporting.

Since 1927, the venerable magazine has honored the person who has influenced the news the most the previous year. In most cases, the recipient has been a person, but there have been times when the honor was bestowed upon an idea or a metaphor (for example, The Silence Breakers and the #MeToo Movement in 2017), and in one case a planet (Planet Earth, 1988).

However, that honor doesn’t necessarily mean that the individual’s contributions to the news are good; in fact, sometimes just the opposite is true. Case in point: the magazine named Adolf Hitler Person of the Year in 1938. Similarly, in 1988 the magazine named Planet Earth Planet of the Year, due to the emerging environmentalist movement and the fact that that year marked a major turning point in addressing major pollution and other environmental issues.
